"Art washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life" -Pablo Picasso

Painting is self-discovery for me, an exploration of my observations, perceptions and feelings, intuitively laying down layers and adding texture, never knowing what the end result will be.

It is important for me to "go with the flow" when creating abstract mixed media paintings and be open to what comes to my mind, similar to what a child would do, with no limitations.  Trying out ideas, seeing what works, putting work to one side until it reveals what it needs, are all processes I use to get to the finished work.  I am fascinated by colour, texture and pattern and use different mark making techniques and collage to build this up.

I start with a base layer and then build from there until there is no more for me to add.  I love the feeling of freedom and going beyond my limitations, just to see what could be done, sometimes I like the result and sometimes I don't, but I believe there is no such thing as failure, just information I didn't have before. that I can use as I evolve.

There is nothing more important than this moment

"Colour is the keyboard, the eyes are the harmonies, the soul is the piano with many strings.  The artist is the hand that plays, touching one key or another, to cause vibrations in the soul".

"Art does not reproduce what we see.  It makes us see".
